Easy Holiday Craft for Kids- Ice Cream Cone Trees

January 10, 2024 by Rebecca Leave a Comment

Looking for an easy holiday craft that your kids will LOVE? Try these ice cream cone trees!

I grew up doing this with my mom and then my siblings and I carried on the tradition even in our 20s and 30s as we would make a gingerbread house at Christmas time.

But even if you don’t make the gingerbread house, you can still have your kids make these adorable trees. Both Charlie and Tessa, my daughters, love doing them so much and look forward to them every holiday season. They’re a tradition in our house.

What You Need:

  1. One package of ice cream cones- the pointy kind
  2. One jar of white icing
  3. Candy and toppings to decorate- think M&Ms, sprinkles, marshmallows, peppermints, rope licorice, gumdrops, red hots
  4. Optional: food coloring if you want the trees to be something other than white
  5. Optional: coconut to make it look like snow around the cones

To Make:

  1. Place ice cream cones on a paper plate upside down
  2. Spread frosting on cone with a plastic or child-safe knife
  3. Decorate with candy and toppings of choice
  4. Spread coconut around trees and enjoy your winter wonderland

Notes:

We usually keep the cones as decoration on a table or around a gingerbread house. But the girls usually make a couple extra to eat as a treat!

And these do not just have to be for Christmas! Choose white and blue for Hanukkah colors or even orange and red to decorate a Thanksgiving table. How pretty would that be??

Need a Little Inspiration for Handmade Valentine Cards for Kids?

February 11, 2021 by Rebecca Leave a Comment

Handmade Valentine Cards for Kids

In case you need a little inspiration for some handmade Valentine cards for your kids..here are mine that I made for Charlie’s friends last year. She was almost 3 so she helped place the stickers and tape and put the Hershey kiss in the yarn guy. But yes, I did the rest because I enjoy that kind of thing! And what’s better than knowing someone took the time to make you something by hand?

Full disclosure: this year we went to Target and got a box of valentine’s with scratch and sniff donut stickers and taped fun heart pencils to them. That’s what Charlie wanted for her friends and could work on herself. There were 17 kiddos in her class so that was way easier: ) But last year, last year we did it big.

I grew up with those little yarn guys on our Christmas tree. My mom had a mouse and reindeer that I believe students gave her when she was a teacher. She would put Hershey Kisses in them and it’s soooo fun to squeeze their cheeks and find a treat. Fun fact: they’re on our Christmas tree now and Charlie loves them! So I was so excited when I found them on Etsy! They are the perfect little Valentine because they’re cute, handmade and the perfect size for one little candy. Kiddos love them!

If you’ve never used washi tape before, it’s so fun. Find it at any craft store- Michael’s, Paper Source and even Target. It’s a Japanese tape that’s made from shrubs instead of tree pulp so it’s thinner and less sticky. It comes in hundreds of different colors and patterns so it can really add a lot of personality and creativity to any project.

I’d love to see your handmade Valentine cards for your kids! Share them below! And happy love day, friends!

Spider Web Craft with Paint + Tape

October 29, 2020 by Rebecca Leave a Comment

This was such a fun craft day project for Charlie, my 3.5 year old. It was easy to set up and we had all the supplies already at home- WIN/WIN.

Found it on Busy Toddler. The mom from this blog did it with one side of a large cardboard box and blue painter’s tape.

Charlie has eyeshadow on her cheeks from putting on my makeup while I was in the shower-ha!

Charlie and I did it with natural craft paper from Ikea and decorative tape from Michael’s because that’s what I already had in our craft closet. Get creative with what you can use! I also chose to tape it to our front porch floor with masking tape because I knew Charlie would work well like this. And it was a beautiful fall day so I wanted us to be outside. But you could also tape it to a wall or art table- up to you and what works for your set up.

Supply List:

  • Paper or Cardboard
  • Tape- scotch tape or painter’s tape
  • Paint + brush- your choice!

I made the design by making a rectangle first with the tape. Then an X. Then a cross. Then Charlie helped me make the web design by sticking small pieces of the decorative tape to connect the X and cross. She actually loved this part as much as the painting. We used our Crayola Washable Paint and Charlie put some crayons out too but ended up only using paint. I just let her do her thing!

Once it’s dried, pull the tape off and voila! A custom spider web. We put Charlie’s finished project outside on the front porch. Happy Halloween crafting: ) Post your spider webs if you try this project!
